Welcome to Security Council!
Hi everyone!
Welcome to Security Council, the coolest organ of the United Nations! This year, we'll be discussing the War in Tigray, and an Open Agenda topic, which you all will be able to vote on when we meet in person this March.
The purpose of this blog is to provide delegates with any updates that may arise, such as recent developments in the topics being discussed, or any logistical reminders that we may need to provide. I also hope that this blog can provide you guys with a forum in which you can comment on posts and have discussions with each other before conference happens. If you do decide to comment and discuss, please make sure to include your delegation, so that it's clear to others who they're interacting with.
You can find our committee webpage here, which has our executive summary, topic synopsis, and a link to this blog. In the coming weeks, we'll also be updating it with position paper guidelines.
Speaking of position papers, I'd like to remind you all of the two deadlines for position papers: February 5th, and February 12th. If you are able to submit your position paper by February 5th, you will be eligible for research awards. However, if you fail to submit by February 12th, you will not be eligible for any awards. I highly recommend that you utilize the topic synopsis as the jumping off point for your research. I know it looks extremely long and intimidating, but keep in mind that a large portion of it is pictures and citations. I also encourage you to check for recent updates on the topics, as many of them are evolving by the week or even day.
Finally, I'd like to talk about our procedure for committee this year: THIMUN. If you haven't heard about it before, don't worry, as BMUN will be hosting a workshop on the procedure before opening ceremonies on the first day of conference. In the meantime, you can find the BMUN-official THIMUN procedure guide here, and some info on other alternative procedures here.
If you have any questions about the topics, position papers, THIMUN, or BMUN in general, please don't hesitate to email at scbmunlxx@bmun.org, or leave a comment on this post.
Looking forward to seeing you all at conference!
